Review #1522; Rum #821
This rum comes to us from Saint Lucia Distillers, which is of course located on Saint Lucia. This rum pays homage to the HMS Princessa which was a British Naval vessel that patrolled the Caribbean during the 1700s. This rum is a blend of Coffey column still distillate and aged in used oak and port casks for between 5 and 9 years before being bottled.
Distillery: Saint Lucia Distillers
Bottler: Saint Lucia Distillers
Region: Saint Lucia
Still: Column
ABV: 40%
Nose: Vanilla, Raspberry, a bit of Coconut, Nutmeg
Palate: Thin Watery Mouthfeel, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Toasted Coconut, Raspberry
Finish: Black Tea, Vanilla, Toasted Coconut
Not bad by any means for sure. However, 40% is just too low and this comes away, not surprisingly, way too watery and thin. Its fine to sit and sip for something lighter. But I can think of a few things that may bring just a bit more to the table even at a low proof.
